INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION FOR CHILDREN

Dear Child,

We all live in the most exciting time independent of our age.

You are still on your way into adulthood.

I am happy to present you with the Self-Awareness Calendar 2018 Version for Children for its very first edition.

Now, you might ask “Why am I a child?” or “Until what age am I a child?” You are still a child because you are not yet an adult. But the question regarding when you stop being a child, is only yours to answer. I cannot make that decision for you.

For various reasons childhood can end earlier than traditionally. But sometimes it can also end later than conventionally. Use the Children’s Version for as long as you feel a child and move to the Adults’ Version when you think it’s right for you.

I assume you are already at an age when you can write and read independently.

Please feel free to only use the part of the calendar that serves you best. You may ignore the rest.

Also feel free to adapt all the information provided according to your own lifestyle.

I recommend you consult an older person if you have particular questions.

The Calendar is meant to be fun and to help you keep a little record for your own personal memories. At some point you will realize how fast time passes and how little we remember. Paper has the purpose to help us remember.

Due to the general overflow of information, the pace of life appears faster and faster, even in childhood. Don’t expect your brain to work like a little robot. It never does.

I hope the Calendar will help you become a great master of time!

INTRODUCTION FOR PARENTS

Dear Parent(s),

If we want to start at the very beginning of a child’s life, then how about we also include the pregnancy?

You as the adult(s) may decide to start keeping the Child’s Calendar as soon as you find out about the pregnancy and continue after the baby’s birth for as long as the baby is not yet old enough to know about time.

These are just two suggestions to consider in case you find them valuable in your own context.

On the other hand, you may start using the Children’s Version when your child is aware of time and all that it implies.

If your child is too young to read and write independently, maybe you agree to accompany them on their journey through time.

Once your child is more independent, I hope you will stay out of being more involved than what your child desires you to be.

Transitions are always valuable for us and we need to remember they are always temporary. Time is always dynamic and never static. Remember this when you co-operate with your own child. Being in the flow of time is important for each one of us independent of our age or status.

If you as a parent use the Version for Adults and at the same time your child uses the Version for Children, consider it as a potential opportunity to reinforce family activities and time shared together.

Our attitudes towards time shape the rhythm and quality of our lives. Not enough attention is ever paid to how to invest our time together in the most meaningful ways. Maybe the two different Versions of the Calendar could be of some help.

I wish you all the self-awareness needed to experience the flow of time as a growing together whilst still contributing your individual uniqueness!
